Our Community of Wilton, NH
Wilton, New Hampshire was settled in 1739 and became a township, only known as #2 in 1749. Formally incorporated as a township by 1762, it boasted a school house, meeting houses, several mills, and enough homes to house a population of 623 by 1775. Wilton also had a few roads and even log bridges.
Reverend Beede was said to have established the first Sunday school in the nation, in Wilton Center in 1816. The same year, the rown opened it's first Post Office. Historical buildings, the Town Hall was built in 1885 and the town Library was built in 1908. By the early 1920's, Wilton was a favored tourist destination for artists and others, escaping cities to the south.
Since then, Wilton has gone through a variety of changes, tranforming it into the gem of a community it is today.
